Kay Thompson serves Excellence Headquarters as Executive Vice President for National Payor Strategy & Contracting. As a seasoned healthcare executive, Thompson has a wide-range of expertise in driving revenue and maximizing profits through managing, growing and sustaining provider networks and health plans. Her exceptional leadership, unwavering tenacity, continual sense of urgency and unparalleled dedication has enabled her to continually increase revenue while lowering the cost of healthcare and health insurance.

Most recently reigning as Health Plan President and CEO of Tenant Healthcare, Thompson was charged with developing innovative strategies to expand the provider network in Texas. Her first order of business was to establish departmental structure and formalize internal processes. Within the first two years she was able to generate approximately $25M in additional gross annual revenue with the addition of 2,500 new Medicare and Health Insurance Market Place members.

Prior to that, Thompson served as Senior Vice President, Managed Care and Network Strategy at Tenant Healthcare, where she gained oversight of the Arizona region. One of her most notable achievements in this role was beginning the work to transforming the organization from a “fee for service” to a “fee for value” model by leading the development and application of a CMS bundled payment model and negotiating pay for value payor agreements.

Thompson previously worked at Aetna as their Market President of Mountain States where she motivated a high-performing team of 88 as she drove all aspects of the commercial and Medicare Advantage health plan with 955,000 members across five states. Additionally, Thompson managed a five state region for 15 years at Aetna, where she achieved and maintained best-in-class discounts in key markets including Phoenix and Las Vegas and consistently achieved or surpassed annual medical cost ratio budgets.

Kay holds a Master’s Degree in Health Administration and Policy from Arizona State University and her focus on the bottom line continues to fuel her vocational success.
